Aurora Contractors was awarded the challenging Design/Build contract for the FedEx Ground distribution facility by SunCap Property Group. Yonkers is one of the 4 FedEx locations Aurora and SunCap have successfully constructed together, all projects meeting time and budget constraints.

This project featured the following:

• Abatement and demolition of 5 existing structures
• New construction of a 122,000 SF distribution facility
• 10 acres of sitework, and off-site improvements
• Re-routing the Sprain Brook from outside the proposed building footprint
  • Installation of two new 6’ diameter culverts, 30’ below grade, covering a distance of over half a mile
  • Blasting over a 5 week period to remove rock that was later crushed and used as structural backfill
  • Dynamic compaction was used to remedy a fill layer located 15’ below grade
• Structural steel super structure, wrapped in precast concrete exterior panels
• 40,000SF parking garage with 218 spots
• New signalization system at the intersection for the NY State Thruway offramp to Tuckahoe Rd
• New traffic signal equipment along a ½ mile stretch of Tuckahoe Rd
• New fiber interconnects for the municipality’s network
• Widening of Tuckahoe Rd to mitigate traffic congestion
• Roadway was milled, and paved to State, County, and City standards
