During his tenure, he played a key role in transforming the company into a leading New York builder, recognized by Crain’s as one of the Top 100 Places to Work in NYC. Following a successful merger with Consigli, Joe took on the role of President of Consigli NYC. As part of the new home to the NY Islanders, this massive parking garage comes in at 532,000 square feet with over 1,450 parking spaces. The aesthetic design is made up from high-end materials and finishes, showcased on the façade of the six-level structure. Aurora Contractors was recently selected as the general contractor for Hartz Mountain Industries Warehouse Development at 235 Pinelawn Rd, Melville NY.
The 846,000 square feet of industrial warehousing space will be split between two individual structures, spanning across the 53 acre site. Building A will consist of 246,500 square feet, situated on the north end of the property, while Building B consists of 600,000 square feet on the south end of the property.
Construction is expected to commence by Q1 of 2021 and be finished by Q2 of 2022.

Aurora Contractors recently completed both phases of the new 348,000 square foot Toll Drive Residence and Dining Hall at Stony Brook University. The 5 story complex includes four towers with suite-style housing, over 300 rooms and 760 beds, formally named Chavez Hall and Tubman Hall. The project features a modern architectural design employing ironspot brick, cast stone and glass, with dining and a hotel-like feel, with mixed-use spaces on the lower level and high-end, suite-style housing above. The project included the 60,000 square foot East Side Dining center that connects the two complexes, and will seat over 1,000 students. The project began in the summer of 2014 and was completed in the fall of 2016. The project also includes a commons building, which links the two complexes and serves as a social and activity hub, complete with a Starbucks. The project was built LEED Gold.

Aurora Contractors, Inc. has been awarded a contract for the renovation and expansion of the Staten Island Mall.
The scope of work for the Staten Island Mall includes the renovation and expansion of the existing shopping center.
There will be a 50,000 SF expansion on the east elevation of the mall and a two-level 300,000 SF expansion on the west elevation. Also included is a two-level, 1,500 space parking garage, site landscaping and façade improvements, relocation of the existing food court to the new expansion and conversion of the former food court into leasable tenant spaces.
Once completed, the mall, which is the only indoor shopping mall on Staten Island, will be home to several new tenants, including a theater and supermarket.
All work will be performed and completed while the mall remains open and operational.

Aurora Contractors is proud to announce that the Nassau Community College Life Sciences Building has been awarded a âLEED Goldâ status via U.S. Green Building Councilâs (USGBC) LEED for New Construction certification program v2.2. The Life Sciences building is the first LEED Gold community college building in New York State.
Some of the LEED methods used to achieve âLEED Goldâ are:
⢠Utilization of light pollution reducing interior and exterior light fixtures; ⢠Providing highly-adjustable lighting for 91% of the building, which aids the occupants in tailoring lighting to suit their specific needs, promoting productivity, comfort and well-being; ⢠Utilizing low-emitting adhesives, flooring, and paints in order to reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants; ⢠Ensuring that a percentage of all building materials used contained recycled content. The percentage of recycled content utilized at the Life Sciences Building was 21%; ⢠Assuring that a percentage of all building materials used were harvested and manufactured within 500 miles of the project, reducing the environmental impact resulting from transportation. The percentage utilized on this project was 22%; ⢠Planning and ensuring that the building is served by multiple bus lines within a one-quarter mile radius of the campus. This allows for a reduction in pollution and land development impacts from automobile use. There are five (5) bus lines that service the Life Sciences Building; and ⢠Achieving an energy cost savings of 15.4%, through the use of high-efficiency glazing, reduced interior lighting power density, occupancy sensors, and reduced fan and pump power.

The Hilton Garden Inn, a new 95,000 SF, five-story hotel, located on the campus of SUNY Stony Brook, opened for business on February 20, 2013. Aurora Contractors served as the Construction Manager for the hotel, built on a 3.5 acre plot near the Universityâs Humanities Building.
The 135 room hotel has received numerous reservations for the coming months. The hotel boasts an indoor pool, meeting space, exercise room and restaurant. The building was designed to meet current LEED certification guidelines and Aurora is currently working on that certification with the owner and design team.

Aurora Contractors recently entered into a contract to act as the Construction Manager for the construction of a new 95,000 SF Hilton Garden Inn on the Stony Brook University campus. The five story, 135 room hotel will be built near the Main Campus Entrance and will feature an indoor pool, 5,000 SF meeting space, restaurant, exercise room, and sundry shop. The hotel will be LEED certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), featuring a brick exterior façade with a look similar to that of the existing Humanities Building. Additionally, there will be energy efficient components built into the hotel operations. Aurora has recently broken ground and the project is expected to complete in early 2013.

Aurora Contractors recently entered into a contract to act as the Design/Build Contractor for the construction of a new 140,000 SF FedEx Ground facility if Long Island City, New York. The scope of work for this project includes restoration of the existing waterfront, installation of new outfalls and off-site remediation and road work. Asbestos abatement and demolition of the 350,000 SF of existing buildings on-site is currently ongoing. The project is expected to complete in March 2013.

This contract is for general contracting for the âNational Amusements Showcase Cinema De Luxâ fit-out in Yonkers, NY. This project contains 12 theaters, 3,000 seats and is 90,000 square feet with a cost of over $10,000,000. Construction is scheduled to begin immediately, with completion in March 2011.

June 10, 2010 Groundbreaking on New Life Sciences Building at Nassau Community College
There will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the New Life Sciences Building at Nassau Community College this Friday, June 11, 2010. The $40 million Life Sciences Building will house the Nursing and Chemistry departments, benefitting approximately 1,300 students annually. The building will be âUâ shaped with glass walls lining, and an open-air courtyard enclosed in, the inside of the U. It will incorporate smart boards and wireless technology throughout. The building design seeks to attain a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) âGoldâ certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Construction on the Life Sciences Building is expected to take 20 months.

Aurora is proud to announce that the Tanger Outlets at the Arches in Deer Park, New York has been certified as a âLEED Silverâ project by the USGBC.
The Arches at Deer Park is the first LEED project to be built in the Town of Babylon and is the largest âgreenâ project on Long Island.
Aurora Contractors has several LEED GAâs and APâs on staff and we are very proud of all involved with this accomplishment.
Some of the techniques used to obtain LEED Silver:
⢠During the demolition phase, the debris was sorted and the concrete was reused as RCA on the site; ⢠A railroad spur was added in order to remove the demolition debris and cut down on local traffic; ⢠The use of recycled material, use of certified wood, use of regional materials, use of low emitting materials; ⢠The redevelopment of Brownfield land; ⢠Alternate public transportation was provided; ⢠Storm water management; ⢠Water use reduction of up to 30%; ⢠Implementation of an indoor air quality management plan; ⢠Automated Lighting; and ⢠Public education signage.

November 30, 2009 Aurora Contractors Awarded Contract for Rehabilitation of Transitional Living Facility at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center
Aurora Contractors has been awarded the contract to perform a full interior and exterior renovation of Creedmoor Building #74 of the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Queens, NY.
The $30,000,000, 110,000 square foot building, built in 1922, is being converted into apartments and offices. Once complete, the building, which was abandoned in 1986, will house over 150 transitional patients in individual studio apartments. Each apartment will have its own separate utilities.
The scope of work for the project entails the complete demolition of all interior walls, ceilings and floor finishes, along with $2 million of asbestos remediation. Additionally, the exterior of the building is being renovated, which involves replacing over 400 windows and lintels, as well as major reconstruction of several exterior elevations.
Aurora is currently working diligently with the facility owners, municipalities, and the state of New York to ensure that construction is completed on schedule.

Each year, McGraw-Hill Construction holds a national competition that recognizes excellence in construction and design. The Best of the Best Awards are based upon the winners of McGraw-Hill Constructionâs 10 regional publications Best of 2009 Awards.
Aurora Contractors is proud to announce that The Arches at Deer Park, for which Aurora acted as Construction Manager, has earned the 2009 National Retail Best of the Best Award.
The National Best of the Best are chosen from a pool of thousands of regional contestants, based upon excellence in several categories, including Teamwork and Project Management; Safety; Innovation; Contribution to the Community; Quality and Craftsmanship and Aesthetics.
The Arches at Deer Park project, an 84 acre, 805,000 square foot, open-air mall, was designed to emulate an old European village. This center differs from other Tanger Outlet centers in many ways; among them are an open courtyard and fountain that serve as an ice rink in the winter months and a 16-screen multiplex, complete with IMAX. The Arches also features restaurants in addition to the food court, so shoppers can sit and enjoy a leisurely meal.

September 2009 â Aurora Contractors, Inc. has been awarded the general contracting contract for the rehabilitation of a 120,000 SF, four-story building on the Creedmoor campus. The building, constructed circa 1925, is intended to be used for transitional living space for discharge ready patients.
The Creedmoor project is sponsored by three not-for-profit agencies and financed by the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH). The scope of work for the project includes asbestos abatement, demolition and brick restoration.
Once complete, the building will contain 157 studio-like apartments with administrative offices and onsite support services, such as a commercial kitchen, vocational training rooms, activity rooms and a dining room.
The project is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Harbor Village at Mount Sinai had its Groundbreaking Ceremony on November 20, 2008 at the future site of the facility. The ceremony included recognition of both public officials and private individuals who have, over the past 10 years, helped to bring the project to the eve of construction beginning. The ceremony also featured speeches from some very enthusiastic future residents looking forward to the day they can move in. The ceremony was followed by a luncheon reception at the adjacent Hamlet at Willow Creek.
Currently all necessary approvals have been secured from the various local agencies and New Life Management & Development is navigating the final stages of the project financing bond sales through todayâs turbulent financial markets. Currently construction is projected to begin late spring / early summer 2009 with completion within 21 months from start.

October 23, 2008 - The Arches at Deer Park, Tangerâs latest New York outlet center, celebrated its grand opening on October 23, 2008. The LEED Certified center, constructed by Aurora Contractors Inc., was completed on time and under budget, posting the highest sales for an opening weekend in Tangerâs history. Thousands of people were on hand for opening weekend, which featured performances by Jordin Sparks and Cheap Trick. The event was covered by national and local news channels and newspapers.

June 18, 2008 â Aurora Contractors, Inc. has completed construction of IKEAâs largest construction enterprise in the United States. The project, constructed in the Redhook Section of Brooklyn, with a budget of $180,000,000, consists of 350,000 SF of retail space. The project team is currently in the midst of the process to achieve LEED Silver status.
The venture, built on a 48-acre site, included the construction of a community park and waterfront esplanade. Other key elements of the project included the decommissioning and infill of an old dry dock and the construction of a water taxi dock to service the site. Existing gantry cranes and other congruent items were restored and relocated within the site.
The IKEA project was featured prominently in both Landscape Architecture Magazine and Concrete Construction Magazine.

The Green Acres Parking Garage is an $11.5 million dollar, four level, 360,000 square feet precast parking facility which will accommodate 1,100 spaces of parking to this busy Valley Stream mall owned and operated by the Vornado Realty Trust Company. The construction of the garage is part of the entire mall renovation and will be constructed while the mall remains open for business. The structure consists entirely of precast including sixty foot long, twelve foot wide double-tee precast decks which are being fabricated out of state and will be trucked to the site for erection.

The project, with a construction budget in excess of $100 Million, is IKEAâs largest endeavor within the United States. The 48 acre site will be comprised of a main building with 350,000 square feet of retail and warehouse space with one story of parking below the building, an elevated truck loading dock and on-grade parking. Ancillary development will include the demolition of numerous existing buildings and their related systems, decommissioning and filling an existing dry dock, performing off-site roadwork, removal and restoration of the piers and bulk heading that border the project, restoring and relocating the existing gantry cranes, providing a ferry/water taxi dock to service the site and providing a waterfront esplanade.
